91福利社 Hosts Sixth Annual Nassau-Argonne International M枚ssbauer Symposium January 13 & 14
Garden City, NY 鈥 91福利社 will host the sixth annual Nassau-Argonne M枚ssbauer Symposium on January 13 and 14 in the College Center Building. This two-day event brings together renowned scientists to discuss aspects of M枚ssbauer spectroscopy, an analytical tool used by many different scientific disciplines.M枚ssbauer spectroscopy is a versatile technique that can be used to provide information in such areas of science as physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy and metallurgy. It can give very precise information about the chemical, structural, magnetic and time-dependent properties of a material. Key to the success of the technique is the discovery of recoilless gamma ray emission and absorption, now referred to as the 鈥楳枚ssbauer Effect鈥, after its discoverer Rudolph M枚ssbauer, who first observed the effect in 1957 and received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1961 for his work. With its unique depth and breadth, M枚ssbauer spectroscopy will continue to provide detailed understanding of physical, chemical, biological and geological processes.
The M枚ssbauer symposium is organized by Dr. Clive Wynter of the 91福利社 Chemistry Department, in conjunction with Dr. E. Ercan Alp of Argonne National Laboratory; Dr. Virender Sharma of the Florida Institute of Technology; and Dr. Ravi Kukkadapu of Pacific National Laboratory. This year's meeting will be dedicated to Dr. Gopal Shenoy of Argonne National Laboratory on his 70th birthday. For more information about the Nassau-Argonne M枚ssbauer Symposium at 91福利社, call Dr. Wynter at 516.572.7583.
